MOTORCYCLE MECHANICS INSTITUTE TO HONOR FOUR-LEGGED FRIEND WHO HELPED FELLOW GRADUATE WITH PTSD SYMPTOMS
Former Orlando Chief of Police Val Demings to Provide Special Recognition to Veterans and Canine Helper
WHAT: Nearly 75 students – along with one special canine – will graduate from the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute (MMI) in Orlando, which trains entry-level motorcycle technicians.
Former Chief of Orlando Police Val Demings will provide a special honor to 4-year-old Zoey, a service dog who has helped MMI graduate and U.S. Army veteran Paul Aragon deal with his post-traumatic stress disorder.
Zoey’s companionship during classes and activities – along with the support of the MMI-Orlando campus community – has helped Paul adjust to civilian life and prepare to re-enter the workforce. He will be living in El Paso, Texas to pursue his career as a motorcycle technician and entrepreneur.
According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, last year more than 245,000 soldiers who served in Iraq or Afghanistan sought care at the VA and received at least a preliminary diagnosis of PTSD.
